Vivian Zhuang is a Shanghainese illustrator. She lived in China until she was sixteen, when she moved to America to further her studies. She spent some years in Park Hills, Kentucky before attending the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. Living in these three extremely different cities, her passion for illustration, painting, and cinema persisted and saw her through dramatic cultural and environmental changes. Her work is often inspired by her personal experiences as a foreigner in the United States, and draws from a wide range of mediums; such as film, literature, fashion, and the fine arts. She has expertise in film production, product design, book, and narrative illustrations that show intimate and personal experiences. She mainly works with digital and painting media with vivid color palettes and a touch of surrealism. She is a strong believer in illustration as a tool for reflecting reality through an artist’s unique perspective lens and background. That illustration has the ability to cross all barriers and restrictions, and elicit empathy among an audience with divergent cultural backgrounds.
